Sustainable timber construction

Designed as a low-emission neighborhood, Timber Town makes an important contribution to climate protection through a 60% lower energy consumption. This is implemented by the central power and heat supply via a combined heat and power unit (CHP). The gasification of wood, the complete utilisation of renewable biomass from the region, the photovoltaic systems on all roofs and TESLA battery systems in the basement ensure independence from the public electricity grid. The building is also sustainable in terms of its construction method, which becomes a model example of ecological building with the reusable material wood thanks to the use of individually produced wooden room modules. Further advantages include very good sound insulation, the high energy standard (KfW 40plus) and natural cooling thanks to wooden facades and extensively greened roofs.

Sustainability and climate protection are also of great importance when it comes to the design of the outdoor facilities. Otherwise sealed surfaces, such as the paths through the neighbourhood and the outdoor parking spaces, are produced exclusively with eco-paving or concrete paving with grass joints, which is considered to be particularly water-permeable and thus enriches the groundwater. The green areas consist of extensive meadows rich in flowers that, together with the natural stone walls created, promote biodiversity, create biotopes and provide a home for sand lizards, a protected species.
